Consumption work in household circular economy activities: findings from a cultural probe experiment

The widely discussed transition to a circular economy (CE) combines large number of approaches that imply varying degrees change and affect institutions actor groups. Despite this variety, the basic premise CE is production consumption are connected each other in new ways. Consumers integral any attempt gear toward circularity. In article, implications for work CEs explored based on qualitative, experimental approach using handbook as cultural probe. case Norwegian domestic dwellers enacting activities related principles. study reveals two interconnected findings question raise attention broader social dimensions economic households. First, participants envisioned enacted specific alternative, which local, community-based, self-sufficiency vision was central. Here, resources were utilised cascaded domestically, reducing link exchanges reach beyond household reduce close environmental resource loops. Second, enactment required more time work, leading discussions standard wage labour presented problematic because it did not leave enough engage work.
